Bought my third Hyundai Palisade in last 30 days from Doug Duell at Evansville Hyundai in Evansville, IN. Last month I traded my wife’s 2017 Volvo XC90 for a White Limited with Black interior ($50K), and my youngest daughter got a White with black base model ($40k). I liked driving her base model so much (when driving back from Indiana) that yesterday I bought home a Black/Black Limited for myself.
These SUVs have more Bells and Whistles than an Escalade or Navigator – for about 1/2 the price. Lane keeping almost steers the car for you; and adaptive cruise control has you set the following distance and will adjust your Speed down until you get into the passing lane then returns to maximum you set. I drove over 900 miles in 11 hours (yes, hit triple digits a few times on the Texas open roads) and only stopped twice (to put 16 gallons regular gas in each time) – and still had 1/3 tank when I arrived. The base model (last month) didn’t have a navigation system, but Apple Car play made the center display a navigation system from (Google Maps) my iPhone while also listing to Amazon Music all of the way home. The Limited has leather, cordless phone charger, heads up display, ambient light, two moon roofs, and ton of other toys. They burn regular VS. 93 Octane the XC90 needed. That’s 50 cents a gallon savings for better mileage and faster SUV.
The reason I bought my Palisades 900+ miles away from home is that Doug Duell is my best bud. We race and pit together – and have more in common with each other than not. He gives me a price to make it worth my while to travel – while still making a profit – and I help his car count, and hopefully it might have been enough (although I doubt it) for next tier bonus for the dealer – plus get to spend a little winter time with my bud. I’d bought a Volvo and two Hyundais from him previously.
While I wouldn’t suggest buying your cars 900 mikes away – if you’re within a couple hundred miles, I can tell you that Doug’s dealership is staffed with successful and intelligent people who will not insult your intelligence in the buying process. I’ve bought close to 50 new cars & trucks (for myself, wife and five kids) and have literally turned around and walked out doors of dealers for insulting my intelligence and/or patronizing or being condescending. Doug and I spend a lot of time talking business and sharing what works and does not – and I can tell you his philosophy is to hire fewer but higher quality people by paying them well and having them work longer hours, and to avoid losers to fill chairs.
I’m a hardcore car/truck guy. I’ve have bought many new Cadillacs, 280ZXs, Mercury, Viper, Volvo, Mercedes and other high quality cars. I am well-healed enough to where I can drive whatever I want – and the Palisade Limited fits everything I need in a car I expect to put high mileage on. Looks, Size (four dogs, I’m full-figured, have four dogs and eight grandkids) as I wanted fold down third seat, gas mileage, cheap fuel, passing power, quality (ranked #2 – behind matching KIA Teleride) and high tech toys.
Just thought I’d share my thoughts with those looking for a new vehicle.
